Microsoft PowerPoint Lesson 1
Grade 7/8 – Mr. Walso
Neilburg Composite School
1) Find Microsoft Powerpoint through "Start" and "Programs".
2) Your first slide may have a title and a text box already placed on your slide. If there isn't a text box and you have a choice of layout for the first slide, choose "Blank Presentation" and click "OK"
3) If you find yourself looking at a blank slide, then you need to add text to it. To add text to this slide, choose "insert" on your tab menu and select "Text Box". Put your cursor on the slide where you want the text to start and draw a rectangle across your page.
4) You should have a blinking cursor. This is where the text will begin. For this lesson, type "My name is name. This is my first slide."
5) You can make the text larger or smaller by highlighting the text, and changing the size through the Format tool bar at the top of the page or by choosing the Format menu and selecting Font. Your title should be at least size 24.
6) The text box can be moved by
-clicking on the text
-putting the cursor over the shaded part outlining he text box so that you get four arrows pointing in four directions.
-holding the mouse button down and dragging to desired location.
7) Apply a colour to your background by opening the "Format" menu and clicking "Background". In the box that appears, click the button near the bottom of the box. Be creative and experiment with "More Colours". You can also get a different effect by changing the "Fill Effects".
8) Create a new slide by opening the "Insert" menu and choosing "New Slide". Looking at the slides running down the right side of the page, choose "blank" layout.
9) You will want to place a picture or two on this slide. Find a picture on the internet and save it to your network drive. DO NOT copy and paste the picture file.
10) To insert a picture, go to the "Insert" menu and choose "Picture" and then "From File". You need to find the picture you want to insert.
11) Put a background on this slide as described earlier. You want your presentation to have a similar them throughout, so you may want to pick a similar background.
12) To scroll through the slides you have created, click the up or down scroll bar to the right of your slide.
13) Your final product should be at least two slides with pictures and text on both. Have a common theme between the two slides.
Your first PowerPoint project must have the following:

· A title page with your name.
· Backgrounds that are solid colours or contain “fill effects.”
· At least one picture on the second slide.
