PowerPoint @ the Olympics

Computers 7/8 – Mr. Walso

Your task: Create a PowerPoint presentation that describes one of the many winter Olympic sports.

You will need to do some research on your sport and the Olympics. Some great sites to look at include www.vancouver2010.com or www.ctvolympics.ca.

You PowerPoint should include:

  • At least 7 slides, including one title slide that has your event name and your name.
  • Each page should have a background.
  • You should have “transitions” between each of the slides. The instructions below describe how to add transitions.
  • Information on your Olympic sport including:
    • What is the event? How does it work? Are competitors shooting a “puck” at a “net,” curling a “rock” towards a “house,” or are they sliding face-first down a hill of ice?
    • Where is the event being held? What does the venue look like?
    • Are there any world records for your sport? If it’s a team sport, who won at the 2006 Olympics in Torino?
    • What are some of the Canadian athletes that are competing in the event?
    • Any other info and pictures that you’d like to share.

A transition allows you to fade from one slide to another in a smooth way. Here’s how you add transitions:

1) Go to the "Slide Show" menu and click "Slide Transition".

2) A number of transitions will appear on the right side of the screen. Choose one. Select speed and how you want the slide to advance, (On mouse Click or Automatically)

3) Move to the next slide and repeat the procedure.

4) You can view your presentation by opening the "Slide Show" menu and click "View Show". When your presentation is complete, click the screen or on the arrow at the bottom left corner. a menu should pop up and choose "Exit".
